MDC Medical Campus to Host Food Truck Mondays in June

Two MDC students and food truck owners are also participating

Miami, June 10, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) Medical Campus is hosting Food Truck Mondays from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Monday in the month of June, including two MDC Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) graduates that were winners of the Food Truck Enterprise Program. Launched last fall, the program is a partnership with Brightline and the Neighbors & Neighbors Association (NANA). It is a free initiative that offered minority business owners in underserved communities the opportunity to compete to purchase or lease a food truck, complete with start-up funding at the train station. The next Food Truck Monday will take place June 13 at MDC Medical Campus.

The two MDC students and food truck owners are Tywanda DuPont, who runs Ty’s Hometown Café & Bistro Food Truck, a brunch concept featuring signature dishes that combine the flavors of her Caribbean and Southern roots. ZOEMANGetItandGo, by Nancy Guerrier, features eclectic Haitian-American cuisine. Both are residents of Miami’s historic Overtown community.

MDC’s Hospitality Institute provides Miami’s under-represented residents with job opportunities in hospitality and tourism by offering free, hands-on training at various sites. Food truck participants had previous culinary training or work experience. The Food Truck Enterprise Program was funded by Miami-Dade County.  NANA is a nonprofit organization that works with Overtown residents. It assists existing businesses and startup businesses through various programs setup to stimulate the economy.  NANA provided inventory and licenses for the award recipients.
