MDC Kendall Campus Presents Heroes and Warriors Halloween Concert Oct. 16

Miami, FL. Sept. 24, 2019 – In the spirit of Halloween, Miami Dade College (MDC) Kendall Campus’ Performing Arts and Industries Department will present Heroes and Warriors, an outdoor concert under the stars, Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m., as part of its On Stage Series. Admission is free and open to the public. A $5 suggested donation is encouraged to support the department.    

Conducted by Dr. Leo Walz, and performed by the MDC Wind Symphony and Orchestra, Heroes and Warriors will take the audience on an epic journey through four different inspirational stories of champions and conquerors in an exhilarating outdoor concert. Presenting musical overtures about a swashbuckling buccaneer The Sea Hawk, a 16th century Dutch nobleman The Count of Egmont, a slave of the Roman empire Ben Hur and the fallen in the Civil War Where Valor Proudly Sleepsthe musical overtures will be accompanied by a screening of films and clips of these larger than life figures and historic tales.

Dr. Walz teaches music history and music theory at MDC Kendall Campus. He is the founder of The Alhambra Orchestra, Miami’s longest-lived and most active community orchestra, and works in various capacities with Miami Lyric Opera.  Dr. Walz also frequently conducts in Eastern Europe and Central America. He holds a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Miami, and studied piano with Gordon DeBroder and Janet Landreth in his native Colorado.

Seating for Heroes and Warriors is first come first serve. Concessions will be available for sale by student clubs. No outside food, coolers or drinks are permitted.

Each season OnStage presents an exciting line-up featuring entertaining and culturally significant performances by accomplished artists and rising stars. On Stage encompasses each of the performing arts – from Jazz and Gospel music to classical and theatrical realism and experimental dance. Most performances are FREE and open to the public taking place at MDC Kendall Campus and include workshops, performances and conferences by MDC Music, Theater and Dance faculty, staff, alumni, and visiting artists.
