Miami, Jan. 31, 2023 – In celebration of National Career & Technical Education (CTE) month, Miami Dade College (MDC) will host a Groundhog Job Shadow Day for high school and MDC students enrolled in CTE programs. Groundhog Job Shadow Day is a national effort where hundreds of thousands of workplaces across the U.S. give participants an up-close look at the specifics of a job and the skills they can learn at school to obtain that job.
On Thursday, Feb. 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., MDC Padron Campus will host 30 students from G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School enrolled in CTE programs. Students will engage in simulations involving cybersecurity and/or cloud computing. Participants will also tour the campus Network Services department to explore job functions and gain insight into the roles and responsibilities of IT staff members. In addition, students will collaborate with MDC Works Career Studio and learn how to create and align their resumes to specific occupations in IT and explore internships in the area.
“MDC is excited to help students see the connection between what they learn in the classroom and the world of work with the goal of supporting them to achieve their goals,” said MDC’s Vice Provost for Workforce and Professional Learning Dr. Loretta Ovueraye.
National Groundhog Job Shadow Day is observed on Feb. 2, but virtual and in-person shadowing opportunities will remain open for the rest of the month. MDC students interested in shadowing can apply here and employers that would like to host MDC students can visit https://bit.ly/3JioAcE.
