MDC Chapter of The Association of Florida Colleges and Farm Share Join Efforts to Host Multiple Food Distribution Events March 15

Miami, Feb. 24, 2022 – In a continued effort to support communities suffering from food insecurities, the Miami Dade College (MDC) chapter of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC), and Farm Share have joined efforts to launch the first in a series of free drive-thru food distribution events, which will take place simultaneously at Homestead, Kendall, Medical and North Campus on Tuesday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to noon while supplies last.

Food insecurity remains a major problem in Florida. According to data from Feeding South Florida, in the Sunshine State, 2,567,300 people (one in eight) are facing hunger and 723,540 of them (one in six) are children.

MDC’s AFC chapter and Farm Share, the College’s longtime partner in the fight against food insecurity in Miami-Dade County, will continue to organize monthly, simultaneous food distribution events at all MDC Campuses starting Friday, April 8.

Farm Share is a non-profit organization that distributes food to individuals and families facing hardships, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches, and other organizations feeding the needy in Florida – free of charge. The organization’s mission is to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by recovering and distributing fresh and nutritious food to those who need it most. MDC has partnered with Farm Share for many years with events at multiple campuses. For more information, visit www.farmshare.org.
