Miami, March 15, 2021 – Miami Dade College (MDC) and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) have established new “4+1” articulation agreements that will allow MDC students a seamless transition to advanced programs FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
“This is a very timely collaboration to help boost South Florida’s tech workforce,” said Antonio Delgado, dean of MDC’s School of Engineering and Technology. “This agreement provides our students with a faster pathway for growing fields, such as artificial intelligence and computer engineering.”
Through the agreement, MDC graduates with a bachelor’s degree in data analytics will have a direct pathway to a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence at FAU. Those who graduate from MDC with a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering technology can complete FAU’s master’s in computer engineering in just one year.
“This agreement will open the door to achieve my goal of earning a master’s in artificial intelligence,” said Ismael Lopez, a recent graduate of MDC’s Bachelor in Data Analytics program. “It will also allow more Latinos like myself to be represented in this field and help reduce biases in algorithms, especially those that can prevent minority access to economic growth.”
These new pathways expand the existing agreement between MDC and FAU that includes master’s degrees in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, and information technology and management.
“This partnership will now enable MDC students to pursue a master’s degree at FAU in artificial intelligence or computer engineering, two critical fields of study, together with degrees in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or information technology and management offered through prior articulation agreements,” said Dr. Stella Batalama, dean of FAU’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
“Our MS in Artificial Intelligence program is the first in the state of Florida, with an innovative training curriculum that covers AI theory, methods, and technologies to teach students new skills so they can be a part of the first-generation AI-and-autonomy workforce. Our MS in Computer Engineering program provides a foundational background in computer architecture and design, software development, and computer systems, exposing students to the latest advances in the field.”
