Argot Tango Quintet Provides the Soundtrack for a Romantic Evening

Miami, Feb. 2, 2017 Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Koubek Center, su casa de cultura, continues its starlit social dance series, the Little Havana Social Club, with a Valentine’s Milonga featuring the Argot Tango Quintet, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18.

“The mansion and gardens provide a perfect backdrop for romance, and the band, a perfect soundtrack,” said Jessica Gloria, manager of the Koubek Center.  “After a rousing performance by Septeto Santiaguero, we’re excited to continue the momentum with one of the world’s great music and dance traditions – tango.”

The Little Havana Social Club is a series dedicated to celebrating Latin American heritage through music and dance.  The events promote community and engagement—from the dance floor to the domino tables—each evening featuring vibrant live bands, pre-concert dance lessons, and local vendors.  Situated in the lush gardens of the historic Koubek Center mansion, the performances are preceded by a complimentary dance lessons and followed by a DJ set. Specialty food and cocktails are available for purchase.

Next events in the series include Puerto Rican bomba and plena by Plena Es on March 25; and Afro-Colombian Rhythms from Herencia de Timbiqui on April 22.

About Argot Tango

Composed of renowned musicians from Argentina and Uruguay, the Argot Tango Quintet boasts a repertoire that spans from traditional to modern, Gardel to Piazzolla, classics to original arrangements. The group is led by the legendary bandoneon player, Miguel Arrabal, who worked on Broadway under the direction of Astor Piazzola.  They have played with the great MIguel Calo, Mariano Mores, Jorge Caldara, and Mario De Marco porteño orchestras.  The group has also accompanied historic singers Roberto Goyeneche, Rubén Juárez, and Alberto Podestá. The ensemble is completed by seasoned tango musicians: pianist and arranger Jorge Vernieri, first violonist Elias Garnik, violinist Silvana Lanfredi and contrabassist Agustin Conti, and guest singer Mariana Quinteros.
