Jazz at Wolfson Presents Singer and Trumpeter Bria Skonberg Jan. 24

Miami, Jan. 8, 2018 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department continues its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, with singer and trumpeter Bria Skonberg, at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 24, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus. All Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are free and open to the public.

Skonberg is described by The Wall Street Journal as one of the “most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation.” Recognized as one of “25 for the Future” by DownBeat magazine, Skonberg has received multiple awards from Hot House Jazz magazine, the 2015 Jazz at Lincoln Center Swing! Award and a 2017 Juno for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year.

Born in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, Skonberg obtained a bachelor’s degree in jazz trumpet performance from Vancouver’s Capilano University. While in Vancouver, she was a featured artist with Canada’s King of Swing, Dal Richards, and performed at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Paralympic Games.

Skonberg moved to New York City in the fall of 2010 and studied regularly with cornetist Warren Vache. She has since released four solo albums of original work.
