Teatro Prometeo Gives Romeo and Juliet a Radical New Twist
MIAMI, Jan. 24, 2017 —Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Teatro Prometeo will offer a hilarious twist on a Shakespearian classic, Romeo vs. Julieta, Feb. 3-12, at MDC’s Koubek Center in Little Havana.
Have you ever thought about what would have happened if Romeo and Juliet had survived and actually got married? Colombian playwright and director, Johnny Acero, debuts his new theatrical project that continues this drama with comedic twists of the most beloved love story in history.
Thanks to the hands of destiny, Romeo and Juliet survive their suicide attempt, and are to get married. The Montagues and The Capulets make their peace, rejoice in love, and both families celebrate the amazing miracle of love…or they? Twenty years later, Romeo and Juliet are dealing with the most common of marriage problems, boredom, lack of attention, suspicions, jealousies, and are looking for excitement in all the wrong places. Will this impulsive duo seek separation as quickly and as passionately as they sought the perfect union or will they prove that love is something that you fight for after the poetic teenage desires have grown up?
“This is something new and fresh. We are out to support playwrights and give our repertory company cutting edge material to share with the community,” said Teatro Prometeo Executive Director, Joann Maria Yarrow.
Featuring performances by Pier Lendaro, Florencia Loguzzo, D’Artagnan Gutierrez, Hannah Ghelman Mariel Corona, Jonny Lopez, Marise Jimenez with live music by Fabian Prieto. The performance is in Spanish.
