Miami, Feb. 13, 2018- Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies will present Martha Peterson, author of The Widow Spy, who will give a firsthand account of being a CIA officer during a true Cold War spy operation in Moscow at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 22 at the North Campus.
Peterson was one of the first women to be assigned to Moscow, a very difficult operational environment. Her story begins in Laos during the Vietnam War where she accompanied her husband, a CIA officer. She describes their life in a small city in Laos, ending with the tragic death of her husband. Then her own thirty-year CIA career begins in Moscow, where she walks the dark streets alone, placing dead-drops and escaping the relentless eye of the KGB. She relates her arrest and detention in Lyubianka Prison as only she can relate it. What she reveals in The Widow Spy has never been told.
She has appeared in the video SHADOW OPS and was in the first episode of 2016’s CNN’s special series called DECLASSIFIED. She also appeared in the UK magazine EYE SPY in 2016.
The renowned School of Justice at the North Campus has been training and educating public safety professionals for more than 40 years, domestically and internationally. More than 80 percent of all public safety professionals in Miami-Dade County have been trained at the School of Justice. The school offers associates degrees, baccalaureate degrees, college credit certificates, certifications in basic law enforcement, corrections and firefighter, and private security, and specialized executive leadership training and assessment services.
