Martha Graham Dance Company Soloist, Lloyd Knight, NWSA 2005 Alum, to Perform at the New World Dance Ensemble @ Aventura Concert

Two dancers on stage.

New World School of the Arts will present an evening of dance in Aventura featuring the New World Dance Ensemble, in a varied and captivating program of contemporary dance.

This exhilarating evening of dance will feature a solo performance by NWSA dance alum and professional dancer, Lloyd Knight (NWSA dance, 2005). Lloyd, a soloist with New York City’s renowned Martha Graham Dance Company and one of Dance Magazine’s “Top 25 to Watch” will perform Martha Graham’s dramatic work, Lucifer. Lloyd joined the Martha Graham Dance Company upon graduating from New World School of the Arts and performs the major male roles of the Graham repertory including in Appalachian Spring, Embattled Garden, Night Journey and many others.

The program will also feature Martha Graham’s powerful group work, Prelude to Action, created in 1936 as a “rousing call for unity, action, and believe in our ability to work together toward a better future.” Contemporary ballet choreographer Amy Hall Garner will present her new work, Influence, danced en pointe, along with Yusha Sorzano’s driving work, Aesop’s Children. Ballet Hispanico’s Michelle Manzanales’ work Paloma Querida, a lyrical tribute to the life and work of Frida Kahlo, and Jeffrey Lloyd Smith‘s work, against the current, will create a vortex of stage energy. The program is appropriate for all ages.

“The program combines inspiring choreography with outstanding dancing and shows off the range and versatility of the New World Dance Ensemble dancers while highlighting the rigor and depth of their dedication and training.”
NWSA dean of dance, Mary Lisa Burns.
