King Felipe VI of Spain will arrive at MDC on Sept. 17.

His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain will deliver the Inaugural Master Lecture for the 2015-16 academic year, at the Freedom Tower at MDC, on Thursday, Sept. 17. He will be joined by Her Majesty the Queen Letizia. The event is by invitation only, but will be live streamed on MDC’s website at 5 p.m. and broadcast on MDC-TV, Channel 78.

Nearly 1,000 people are expected to attend the event, including hundreds of MDC students and faculty as well as South Florida community and business leaders. His Majesty last visited MDC in Nov. 2013 when he presided over the inauguration of the Miami Book Fair.

College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón will present His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain with the Presidential Medal, the College’s highest distinction. MDC’s Presidential Medal has been awarded to leaders and luminaries from across the world for their impactful contributions to humanity. Past recipients include President Barack Obama, Lech Walesa, Yoani Sanchez, Mikhail Gorbachev, Maya Angelou, Bill Clinton, Muhammad Yunus and Vaclav Havel, to name a few.

His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain ascended to the throne on June 19, 2014, succeeding his father, His Majesty the King Juan Carlos I. He previously held the title of Prince of Asturias and worked to support many philanthropic causes and to promote international fellowship among Spanish-speaking countries.
