An Early Start
Summer may just be arriving, but registration is already underway for the 2017 fall semester at MDC. The new start is a way for the College to encourage “early birds,” by allowing more time for students to plan and prepare for their classes. Students are advised to register early, as classes are expected to fill quickly.
A Florida First: Data Analytics
In our digital age, compiling, analyzing and interpreting data is central to good business. This fall, MDC introduces another Florida first – a Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics. This Bachelor’s program is one of the three “stackable” credentials in big data offered at MDC, along with a College Credit Certificate in Business Intelligence and an Associate in Science in Business Intelligence. Students may choose to enroll directly in the Bachelor’s program or follow the stackable credentials path. Both options offer significant market value to anyone interested in pursuing or further developing a career as a data analyst in a wide range of industries.
“There are abundant employment opportunities for data analysts in the public and private sector.”
“Data Analytics is an exciting and still emerging technology field that responds to the explosion of ‘big data,’ said Antonio Delgado, Dean of the School of Engineering, Technology and Design. “It doesn’t just concern a single sector; nearly every area in the local and global economy requires data analysis. Companies are looking to strengthen their position in the marketplace and make decisions based on statistically sound data processing. There are abundant employment opportunities for data analysts in the public and private sector and this degree will position graduates to enter the job market with excellent academic credentials.”
A cross-disciplinary curriculum will teach students to discover patterns and relationships in large data sets, resolve business questions, make data-driven decisions, and effectively communicate informed tactical and strategic business objectives. Students will acquire a skill set built around statistics and probability, predictive analytics algorithms, data mining, data visualization, data security and governance, and other related disciplines.
Meeting Workplace Demands
MDC is committed to preparing students to meet current workplace demands. For those who want to add further credentials to their resume and increase their marketability, MDC offers four new College Credit Certificate programs starting this fall. The certificate programs are in areas that are highly relevant to today’s job market: Engineering Technology Support, Mechatronics, Rapid Prototyping, and Instructional Design and Technology.
Bachelor’s degree options include several tracks in Education, as well as degrees in Supply Chain Management, Information Systems Technology, Biological Sciences; Electronics Engineering; Film, Television & Digital Production; Nursing; Physician Assistant studies; Public Safety; and Supervision and Management.
MDC offers more than 300 academic pathways leading to bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees and career training certificates for in-demand jobs.
Classes start Monday, August 28.
