MIAMI, Oct. 1, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center will open its doors to the Liberty City community and surrounding areas on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at 9 a.m., for its annual Free College for a Day event.
This activity provides prospective students and members of the community the chance to learn all the educational and resource opportunities that the Meek Center offers. Participants will discover first-hand what it is like to be a college student by engaging with faculty and staff in a variety of interactive workshops.
“We believe that providing everyone a taste of college life will afford our community a better understanding of how attainable a college credential is, and how much it can help to advance one’s career and life,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, president of North and Padrón campuses.
Visitors will learn about how to obtain a GED at the College while others can gain knowledge on acquiring a career through industry certifications, college credit certificates as well as associate and bachelor’s degrees. High school students and their parents can learn about dual enrollment course offerings, which affords qualified students to earn college credits prior to high school graduation. A resource and academic major fair to take place during the event will showcase many of the opportunities available at MDC and through community organizations and partners in the surrounding area.
Workshop topics cover various disciplines and programs taught at the College, including Information Technology, Film Production, Graphic Design, Criminal Justice, Business, to name a few. Additional workshops will teach attendees about financial literacy and various ways to pay for college.
