Miami, May 28, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business, the Center for Financial Training at MDC, CareerSource of South Florida and the Cuban American National Council (CNC) partner once again to host the 2019 Future Bankers’ Camp, a program that for the last 12 years has provided hands-on experience for high school students interested in careers within the financial services sector.
The educational component is a two-week ABA (American Bankers Association) program to take place June 3-14, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, followed by internships June 17–28, at various locations throughout Miami-Dade County. The program culminates with a graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 27.
This year’s track also includes Bank Teller Training. Upon successful completion of the camp, students are eligible to receive the American Bankers Association Bank Teller Certificate. Students who graduate will also earn summer school credits and can apply for dual enrollment credits towards an associate degree in financial services and receive National Academy Foundation (NAF) Certification.
With 32 local banks/financial institutions supporting the Future Bankers’ Camp, this innovative program includes various educational opportunities for students to enhance their math, communication and financial literacy skills, including completion of a two-week internship and industry certification with the goal of preparing them for college and careers in financial services. This initiative is also aligned with the school district’s partnership and involvement in the One Community One Goal Targeted Industry Implementation Plan.
Now in its 12th year, the Future Bankers’ Camp welcomes 110 students enrolled in 12 Academy of Finance programs at local schools, including Barbara Goleman Senior High School, Coral Gables Senior High School, Coral Reef Senior High School, Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, Hialeah Gardens Senior High School, Miami Edison Senior High School, Miami Jackson Senior High School, Miami Spring Senior High School, Miami Sunset Senior High School, North Miami Beach Senior High School and South Dade Senior High School and William H. Turner Technical Arts High School.

The Center for Financial Training at MDC provides financial services education, training and technology to financial services professionals throughout the United States and around the world. CFT is a national organization and the largest industry-sponsored adult education program in the world. CFT training and education programs provide job specific skills and knowledge to the financial services industry. CFT is the educational arm of the American Bankers Association and courses are part of a national continuing education curriculum. Completion of prescribed programs can lead to industry-recognized ABA/CFT diplomas and certificates as well as assist in professional licensing requirements and meet college credit and degree requirements.
