Miami Dade College’s Acclaimed School for Advanced Studies Celebrates 30 Years of Excellence

Miami, March 8, 2019 – Often lauded as one of the country’s best high schools, the School for Advanced Studies (SAS) at Miami Dade College (MDC), a partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Friday, March 15, at MDC’s historic Freedom Tower. Working media is welcome.

The event will be attended by MDC President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, M-DCPS Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and various elected officials as well as notable SAS alumni.

SAS is a full-time, dual-enrollment high school initiated in the 1988-89 school year. Students complete their last two years of high school while attending MDC and in almost all cases graduate with both a high school and Associate in Arts degree. SAS is located at five MDC campuses (Homestead, Kendall, North, West, and Wolfson).

This year SAS was ranked as the top high school in South Florida by Niche, a ranking and review site focused on schools, colleges, and neighborhoods, which has recognized SAS every year since 2014. It was also named one of America’s best public high schools by Newsweek magazine in 2013. In 2012, it was voted among the top 100 Best High Schools in the nation by the Washington Post and continues to receive accolades.

One hundred percent of SAS students graduate and continue their academic studies at top colleges and universities throughout the nation and beyond. The school has graduated approximately 4,500 students over the course of its history.
