Miami Dade College’s North Campus to Host Renowned Forensic Specialist Dr. Henry Lee and Forensics Expo Jan. 31

Miami, Jan. 17, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will host its annual Forensics Expo at 8.am., Thursday Jan. 31.  Moreover, as part of STEMversation Career Speaker Series, MDC’s School of Science and Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies will present world-renowned forensic specialist and founder of the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science at the University of New Haven, Dr. Henry Lee, at 10 a.m. The events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Lee is recognized for his investigative work on well-known criminal cases such as the JonBenét Ramsey murder, the Helle Crafts woodchipper murder, the O.J. Simpson and Laci Peterson cases, and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  Currently, he is a chaired professor at the University of New Haven. From 2000 to 2010, Dr. Lee was the chief emeritus for the Connecticut State Police Forensic Science Laboratory and, from 1978 to 2000, commissioner of Public Safety for the state of Connecticut. He has also served as the state’s chief criminalist. Along his extensive and successful career, which spans almost 50 years, Dr. Lee has utilized his skills to assist investigators in more than 85 countries, investigating more than 8,000 major cases.

The Forensics Expo that precedes Dr. Lee’s conversation will feature local organizations, companies, and law enforcement agencies. During the event attendees will be able to purchase one of Dr. Lee’s books and participate in a book signing following the presentation.

MDC’s STEMversation Career Speaker Series brings experts from the entire STEM spectrum to share their knowledge with students and the community. These presentations expose attendees to new perspectives and developments in these fields and provide students an opportunity to connect with STEM professionals from many specialties.  Future STEMversation speakers include pediatric geneticist Dr. Kristin Lindstrom (March 13).  The series is sponsored by the US Department of Education STEM ISLE and STEM EngInE grants in collaboration with MDC’s School of Justice.
