Miami Dade College’s student publications continue to receive excellent notices and amass top prizes at the state and national level.

The student newspaper, The Reporter, has been named the top college newspaper in the state by the Florida College System Publications Association (FSCPA) for the seventh year in a row.

The Reporter staff placed in 12 of 18 individual categories – including six first-place awards – at the recent FCSPA awards banquet in Orlando. The paper has won 100 awards from the FCSPA in the past seven years, including 58 first-place honors.

In addition to placing first in overall excellence, individuals won first place honors for In-Depth Reporting, News Story, Humor Column, Picture Story, Editorial Cartoon and Design. The competition was based on newspapers printed during the 2016-17 school year. The Reporter accumulated 27 overall points.

“I am so grateful for having such a supportive and hardworking staff,” said Maria Vizcaino, The Reporter’s editor-in-chief. “We were blessed to have been part of the paper. The real accomplishments are the experiences we had and the friends we made.”

The Reporter features 16 pages, prints on a biweekly schedule, has a circulation of 10,250 per print cycle and is supplemented by a website with video and audio content. It is distributed at all eight MDC campuses and has newsrooms at the Kendall, North and Wolfson Campuses.
