Miami, Oct. 12, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Justice and the Florida Public Service Association (FPSA) will host the South Regional Leadership Conference on Saturday, Oct. 28, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., at MDC’s North Campus.
Students in criminal justice programs across South Florida will compete in simulated traffic stops, felony traffic stops, obstacle course driving, CPR, forensic investigations, defensive tactics, and various, other criminal justice activities.
“This event offers students an opportunity to learn from law enforcement personnel and hone their skills in time for the State Leadership Conference,” said Dwight Stevens, South Regional Leadership Conference’s adviser.
Founded in 1990, the FPSA is a public service driven career technical student organization (CTSO) recognized by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE). As a CTSO, FPSA provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills. FPSA prepares students for further STEM education and careers in the criminal justice, law studies, firefighting, public administration and teaching assisting through career development events. As an association, FPSA provide students with academic, general employability, problem-solving, technical and occupation-specific skills to meet the demands for a career in public service.
The renowned School of Justice at MDC’s North Campus has been training and educating public safety professionals for the past 41 years, domestically and internationally. More than 80 percent of all public safety professionals in Miami-Dade County have been trained at the School of Justice. The school offers associates degrees in criminal justice, a bachelor in applied science degree in public safety management with seven specialized tracks, college credit certificates in homeland security and crime scene technology, specialized executive leadership training and assessment services as well as certifications in basic law enforcement, corrections and firefighter, and private security.
