Pulitzer Prize-Winning Investigative Reporter Nicholas Nehamas to Present at MDC’s Summer Journalism Speaker Series

Miami, June 20, 2017 – Miami Herald Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter, Nicholas Nehamas, will speak at the 2017 Miami Dade College (MDC) Summer Journalism Speaker Series at 9 a.m., on Friday, June 30, at its North Campus. The series includes a presentation from guest journalists followed by a 15-minute question and answer session. All presentations are free and open to the public.

Nehamas was part of a global team of journalists that broke the Panama Papers story that won a Pulitzer in 2017. He has previously covered real estate and health care for the Herald.

A graduate of the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism at Columbia Journalism School, Nehamas has also written for the New York Daily News, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, The Record (Bergen County) and Al Jazeera America.

This year’s Speaker Series will also feature Gregory Castillo, multimedia producer at the Dallas Museum of Art, at 9 a.m., on Friday, July 7. Castillo is a videographer and photographer and was part of the inaugural staff of The Reporter in 2010, MDC’s student newspaper. He interned at the Miami Herald, the Dallas Morning News, and WLRN.

The MDC Journalism Speaker Series was launched in February 2008 to create an exchange and learning opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. To date, 55 journalists have participated in the series.

This year’s Speaker Series will run in conjunction with the MDC’s High School Journalism Institute, an intensive six-week dual-enrollment summer journalism program for high school students interested in journalism careers. Students will learn how to write news and feature stories, edit video, take photographs and work on headline and caption writing. They will also produce an eight-page newspaper at the end of the semester.
