Immigrants Can Become Empowered with Tools to Succeed at FLYi Fest at Miami Dade College

Miami, March 2, 2017- Miami Dade College (MDC) will host the inaugural FLYi Fest, sponsored by the Florida League of Young Immigrants, at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 11, with the goal to ease the transition of new immigrants into the community and forge a foundation for success.

Inspired by the Aspen Ideas Festival, the FLYi Fest, will be an outdoors fair where organizations will provide information and guidance to immigrants.  There will also be forums and discussions where select notables will give testimonies with the purpose of inspiring and building the community. Participants can enjoy a musical performance, mural painting, pizza and other snacks.  School supply kits will also be distributed.

With the support of MDC, Bezos Scholars Foundation and the MDC’s School for Advanced Studies (SAS), the Local Ideas Festival will serve as the link among youth, their families and the avenues to life and professional success.
