Miami, Oct. 10, 2016– Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Education will partner with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) to launch the first of its kind teaching academy for high school students to receive college credit towards a teaching degree at Miami Springs High School at 8:30 a.m., Oct. 11.
Confirmed guests include Miami Springs Mayor Xavier Garcia, County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, Miami Springs Council Members William Bain and Robert Best, School Board Member Susie V. Castillo, M-DCPS Assistant Superintendent of Human Capital Jose Dotres as well as several principals from M-DCPS, private and charter schools.
The launch not only marks the first time M-DCPS has partnered with a state college, but MDC is the largest local provider of exceptional student education and mathematics education teachers for M-DCPS.
About 25 students in 9th and 10th grades will begin to research the teaching profession, its history, and development during the Teaching Academy. Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to register for dual enrollment courses to earn credits toward their college degrees.
