MDC’S Miami Book Fair Unveils 2016 Poster and Full Fair Schedule Online

2016 MIAMI BOOK FAIR Nov. 13 – 20

Miami, Oct. 4, 2016 Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Book Fair, (MBF) the nation’s finest and largest literary gathering, has unveiled this year’s official poster featuring artwork by Los Angeles-based graphic novelist, cartoonist and 2016 MacArthur Genius Grant recipient Gene Luen Yang.

In addition to being named a MacArthur fellow, Yang was recently appointed a National Ambassador of Young People’s Literature, a two-year position that focuses on highlighting the importance of young people’s literature and reading.

Yang’s groundbreaking first book, American Born Chinese, was the first graphic novel nominated for a National Book Award and first to win the American Library Association’s Printz Award. It also won an Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album – New. In 2013 he released Boxers & Saints, a two-volume graphic novel about the Boxer Rebellion that was nominated for a National Book Award and won the L.A. Times Book Prize. His other works include Dark Horse Comics’ continuation of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender and DC Comics’ Superman. Yang teaches creative writing through Hamline University’s MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program.

Posters, as well as printed Fair Guides, will be available at a number of pop-up events to take place throughout the city in the coming month. Locations to include Shinola Wynwood, Books & Books, The Langford hotel and others. Days and times will be shared via the Fair’s social media accounts, and will be posted online. Giveaways, refreshments and interactive activities will be part of the events.
