MDC North Campus to Host “Free College for a Day” Oct. 1

Miami, Sept. 21, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus invites students and the community to experience Free College for a Day on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Students and community members of all ages will be able to participate and experience first-hand what it is like to be a college student, including children as young as 5 years old. Event attendees can select from a variety of fun, interactive classes, and workshops in various fields and areas of interests being taught by our distinguished faculty while engaging with current college students.

“We believe that affording everyone a taste of college courses and student life will help our community better understand how attainable a college credential really is, and how much it can help to advance one’s career and life,” stated Dr. Malou C. Harrison, president of the North Campus

Participants will also be able to learn about the vast credit and non-credit program options available at MDC, including industry certifications, credit certificates, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees. Middle and high school students and their parents can learn about our dual enrollment program, which allows qualified students to earn college credits prior to high school graduation.  There will also be a resource fair that will take place during the event to showcase all of the opportunities available at the College.

Workshop topics cover the various disciplines and programs at the College, including IT, film production, science, graphic design, criminal justice, business, art, science, architecture, and more.  Additional workshops will help attendees learn about different ways to pay for college courses, learning styles, and current high demand jobs in South Florida.
