Miami Dade College has earned new national recognition from U.S. News & World Report, rising to No. 3 among Top Public Schools — Regional Colleges (South) in the publication’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings. The move, up from No. 5 last year, underscores MDC’s growing profile as one of the nation’s leading public institutions for access, academic quality and student success.
The College also ranked No. 3 among Best Colleges for Veterans — Regional Colleges (South), No. 17 for Social Mobility — Regional Colleges (South), and No. 19 overall among Regional Colleges (South), a reflection of its broad mission to serve students from every background while preparing them for meaningful careers and stronger futures.
“Miami Dade College’s rise reflects our relentless focus on academic excellence, student success and access,” said MDC President Madeline Pumariega. “It is a recognition of the extraordinary work of our faculty and staff and the talent and determination of our students. For MDC, the rankings point to impact at scale. The College’s eight campuses and outreach centers serve approximately 125,000 students and offer more than 300 degree pathways, certifications and apprenticeships. Its latest recognition builds on a long record of helping students move from classroom learning to workforce opportunity across Miami-Dade County and beyond.
That mission is especially clear in MDC’s recognition for serving veterans and military-connected students. The College served 1,025 veterans in the data used for the 2027 rankings, the largest number among regional institutions ranked in the category.

For MDC, the latest rankings affirm a promise that has guided the College since it opened its doors in 1960: expanding access to high-quality education while creating pathways that strengthen students, families and the region.
