MDC’s Hospitality Institute to Host Job Readiness Training & Career Fair

Miami, FL Sept. 12, 2016 – As part of its commitment to providing job readiness, hospitality,  culinary skills training, and job referral assistance to the residents of Miami’s inner city neighborhoods,  Miami Dade College’s  (MDC) Hospitality Institute will once again host a four-day Job Readiness Training & Career Fair from Oct. 4-7, at the Greater Bethel A.M.E Church in Overtown.

The training sessions are held Tuesday, Oct. 4 to Thursday, Oct. 6 from 8:30 am to 4 p.m.  Experts from the hospitality industry, MDC instructors, and motivational speakers will lead the training sessions and cover topics such as resume writing, interviewing techniques, customer service, professional attire, financial literacy, food safety certification, and much more. A Live-Streamed Q&A Panel Discussion featuring representatives from Go Brightline, MDM Development & Marriott Hotels, Greater Miami Conventions & Visitors Bureau, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, Greater Miami and The Beaches Hotel Association, and other Hospitality & Travel Industry Organizations will take place on Tuesday Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. The live-stream can viewed at http://www.mdc.edu/livestream/.

Staff from MDC and The Hospitality Institute will also be available to assist with information on educational opportunities, including GED certification, MDC admissions and enrollment, and college financial aid.

The training program concludes on Friday, Oct 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a completion ceremony and a career fair exclusive to Hospitality Institute participants and alumni. The career fair will feature employers from the hospitality industry including hotels, restaurants, and area attractions.

Established in Jan. 2008, the Hospitality Institute at MDC operates under the umbrella of the Miami International Hospitality Center.  Job Readiness Training is held four times throughout the year and is currently funded by the City of Miami Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency.

There is no cost to attend Job Readiness Training, and registration is open to Miami-Dade County residents, with a focus on Overtown, Downtown Miami, Liberty City and surrounding areas.
