Miami Dade College Partners with Amazon to Offer AI Program for Nonprofit Leaders

MIAMI (March 31, 2026)Miami Dade College (MDC) and Amazon are launching AI for Social Good, a four-week training program that equips nonprofit leaders with practical AI skills to drive social impact. Administered through MDC’s AI Center, the program welcomes its first cohort of 25 participants on Wednesday, April 1.

A national leader in AI education, MDC serves as home to several state-of-the-art AI centers and professors specializing in emerging technologies. Coupled with its convenient locations across Miami, the College puts the program at the center of one of the largest and most culturally diverse nonprofit ecosystems in the country, giving participants immediate, real-world context for everything they learn.

“Nonprofit leaders are on the front lines of our communities, and they deserve access to the same tools shaping the future,” said Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega. “AI is transforming how organizations operate, and MDC is committed to making sure those doing the most important work know how to use it well. Partnering with Amazon to bring AI for Social Good to life is exactly the kind of bold step MDC was made for.”

Developed to help nonprofit organizations leverage AI more frequently, AI for Social Good offers participants the opportunity to learn AI applications for daily challenges such as donor engagement, program evaluation and operational efficiency. The program blends self-paced online learning and in-person workshops with personalized office hours, providing participants with the skills to implement AI tools immediately within their organizations.

AI for Social Good will be led by Dr. Michael Mannino, Dr. Jose Fernandez-Calvo, Ms. Sheena Jhons and Mr. Guillermo Planos, who will guide participants through real case studies drawn from South Florida’s diverse nonprofit sector.

AI for Social Good reflects Amazon’s commitment to community and workforce development across South Florida. By partnering with MDC, Amazon aims to expand access to AI education for nonprofit CEOs, executive directors, and board members to help them serve their communities more effectively.

“Our partnership with Miami Dade College underscores Amazon’s dedication to bringing AI education directly to the people shaping our communities,” said Angelica Santibanez, Head of Community Engagement, Florida and Latin America, Amazon Public Policy. “As AI continues to reshape every sector, nonprofit organizations must have the tools and training to stay ahead — both to strengthen their operations and to deepen their impact. Working closely with MDC, we saw a clear opportunity: empowering nonprofit leaders to think of AI not as a buzzword, but as a strategic partner for solving today’s most pressing challenges and driving sustainable growth. We’re honored to support these dedicated changemakers as they unlock AI’s potential to advance their missions and better serve their communities.”

The inaugural cohort of 25 participants includes leaders from organizations across South Florida, including Philanthropy Miami, Health Council of South Florida, Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, Achieve Miami and more.
