Miami, FL – Feb. 18, 2026 — Miami Dade College (MDC) West Campus Gallery presents Unbound: Women in the Arts, a compelling group exhibition celebrating Women’s History Month and honoring the enduring legacy of Frida Kahlo, the iconic Mexican artist. Opening on Monday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m. and on view through Friday, May 15, the exhibition, free and open to the public, brings together a diverse group of women artists whose practices embody strength, innovation, and artistic freedom.
Curated by Carlos Julio Pabon and presented by Contemporary Art Gallery Unbound: Women in the Arts features a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography, and installation, creating a dynamic dialogue around themes of transformation, resilience, memory, materiality, and empowerment.
Participating artists include Carola Orieta Sperman, Jolie Duenas, Michele Utley Voigt, Betti Brillembourg, Marcy Axelrod, Dabers, Ethel Gittlin, Nadine O Vagel, Evangeline Ang, Haydee Orozco, Christine Laubauch, Ana Maria Nava and Dale Reid.
Together, their works form a powerful collective narrative that honors individuality while emphasizing shared experiences of strength, vulnerability, and creative autonomy.
Celebrating the creative voices of women who work beyond limitation – artists who challenge convention, explore identity, and transform personal narratives into powerful visual statements – Unbound: Women in Arts also honors Kahlo’s enduring legacy. Her fearless exploration of identity, pain, culture, and femininity reshaped the history of modern art. Kahlo’s life and work continue to serve as a profound source of inspiration, symbolizing artistic independence and emotional truth. Her influence resonates throughout the exhibition, echoing in the contemporary practices of the participating artists who, like Kahlo, transform lived experience into universal visual language.
