Miami, FL – Feb. 12, 2026 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) cultural units – Miami Film Festival, Museum of Art and Design (MOAD), Miami Book Fair, Koubek Center and Live Arts Miami – will showcase their dynamic programs during Open House Miami, a vibrant celebration of art, history, literature, and performance taking place on Friday, Feb. 27, from 6 – 9 p.m. at MDC’s Koubek Center. The Open House, named Caribbean Contrasts is free and open to the public and working media.
During the event, guests will experience an immersive evening highlighting architecture, art, music, film, dance, literature and community. For more than five decades, MDC has been a beacon of culture and education in South Florida, offering cultural programs that engage the community year-round through festivals, performances, exhibitions and historic site activations, including Caribbean Contrasts at the Koubek Center and guided tours of the historic Freedom Tower. Caribbean Contrasts during Open House Miami exemplifies this legacy, providing the community with an opportunity to explore and engage with the unique programs offered by each of MDC’s cultural institutions.
Highlights of Caribbean Contrasts include:
- Miami Film Festival Shorts: A captivating showcase of unique, independent short films presented on a continuous loop, allowing guests to drop in and experience compelling cinematic stories at any time.
- Miami Book Fair Reading Garden: Relax under the stars in Adirondack chairs surrounded by lush greenery. Browse and discover your next favorite book to take home! There will be poetry on demand and more.
- MOAD Tour of the Koubek Mansion: Join the Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) for a conversation about history, art, architectural transformation, and the power of public space. Architectural Historian Victor Deupi offers rare insight into the Koubek Mansion and its current role as the Koubek Center. Deupi will be joined by Amy Galpin, MOAD’s Executive Director.
- Koubek Center: Don’t miss the hard-hitting, romance-stricken, and rebellious rhythms of a mariachi performance.
- Live Arts Miami: Skip the happy hour. Enter a Sad Hour. Rosie Herrera Dance Theater invites audiences into an immersive performance celebrating the beautifully tragic music of the Caribbean—and the unexpected joy found in shared catharsis.
