MDC Homestead Campus Commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme

Miami, June 14, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Homestead Campus in collaboration with the British consulate, will present a commemorative program for the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. Special guest Consul General David Prodger of the United Kingdom will deliver remarks on Thursday, June 30.  The event is free and open to the public.

The MDC Homestead Campus continues its commemoration of the great conflict with a program about the Battle of the Somme. The first day of the battle, July 1, 1916, is remembered in the United Kingdom as the worst day in the history of the British army with over 60,000 casualties in just the first 10 hours. The five-month battle saw the deaths of over 1.2 million British and German soldiers.
