Miami, May 6, 2024 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Film Festival continues its Cuban Cinema Series, sponsored by ArtesMiami and with support from the Heberto Padilla Foundation, with the award-winning documentary El Caso Padilla at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at MDC’s Koubek Center in Little Havana.
Following the screening, director Pavel Giroud and producer Lía Rodríguez will participate in a Q & A moderated by Alejandro Ríos, Cuban Cinema Series founder, film critic and journalist.
El Caso Padilla centers on the infamous mea culpa of the well-known poet Heberto Padilla, author of a cursed book Fuera del Juego, shortly before being released from the dungeons of the Castro State Security in 1971, becomes a shocking cinematographic experience, a timely historical reflection on totalitarian repression in Cuba.
Giroud uses original testimonies to make viewers participate in the horror of a devastating and controversial self-incrimination, in the manner of the Stalinist trials, but in the heart of the terrified Cuban intellectuals of that time. Giroud has a notable filmography across various genres, including La Edad de la Peseta, Omertá and El Acompañante.
The screening is free with registration. Reserve your tickets at https://miamifilmfestival.com/cuban-cinema-series.
Free parking available at the Koubek Center.
