Miami, Jan. 9, 2023 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus is hosting members of the newly established Cuban Professional Baseball Federation (FEPCUBE), spearheaded by Cuban pitching legend Orlando “El Duque” Hernández and Brayan Peña. The team will be using the North Campus’ Demie Mainieri Baseball Field for the next two weeks (Jan. 8 – 22) to practice for the upcoming Intercontinental Baseball Series in Barranquilla, Colombia.
It’s the first time the team, which is not affiliated with the sport authorities on the island, participates in the series. Practice will take place from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Jan. 8 – 22. There will be a Q&A with team members. The team’s complete roster of players will be announced on Monday, Jan. 22. Working media is welcome.
Practice is open to the public and admission is $5. MDC students, faculty and staff can view practices for free by showing their MDC ID at the ticket booth. For more information, please call 305-237-1141.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to host these practices at our newly renovated baseball field. The campus has a long-standing commitment to being a gathering place for the community,” said North Campus President Fermin Vazquez.
