Miami Dade College’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents Wolfson Jazz Ensembles

Miami, Oct. 20, 2023 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department at the Wolfson Campus continues its Jazz at Wolfson Present series with a performance by MDC’s Wolfson Jazz Ensembles at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. This and all Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are free and open to the public.

The Wolfson Jazz Ensembles consist of two groups of exceptional music students. The Standards Band pays tribute to the repertoire that is shared by jazz musicians the world over. The Post-Bop Group takes its name from the umbrella of musical styles that emerged in during and closely following the mid-sixties. Both groups help young musicians develop by presenting a wide range of jazz styles.

The Wolfson Jazz Ensembles have included some of South Florida’s finest emerging musicians. Over the years, ensembles from Wolfson have performed at jazz festivals in Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands. The groups have received DownBeat magazine awards in both composition and performance.

Notable alumni from these groups include Chicago-based saxophonist Rocky Yera, New York saxophonist Hery Paz, Trinidad and Tobago multi-instrumentalist Shaquille Noel, guitarist Richard Padron, as well as pianist Kemuel Roig, formerly with Arturo Sandoval and Al Di Meola.

Both groups offer an evening of diverse jazz styles that have been greatly explored through intense individual practice and group rehearsals.
