Artists Sean Patrick Doyle and J. Cameron Barnett Visit NWSA

New World School of the Arts theater faculty Matthew Buffalo extended an invitation to guest artists Sean Patrick Doyle, NWSA theater alum, and J. Cameron Barnett, to offer a master class to the NWSA college senior theatre class. The session presented on Zoom focused on specific aspects of the entertainment industry in New York City and Los Angeles, including understanding the difference between managers and agents, navigating the world of voice over work in tv/film/gaming, the importance of having other business skills to support the artist and their art, and how to cultivate an artist as a brand.
 
Sean Patrick Doyle is a New World School of the Arts high school theater alum, class of 2001. He is best known for playing Garv in 20th Century Fox’s The Sitter and the singing vocals for Sir Ben Kingsley in Focus Features’ Oscar-nominated stop-motion, The Boxtrolls. On Broadway, he originated the role of Chantal the Songbird in the Tony award-winning revival of La Cage Aux Folles as well as appeared in the Tony-winning musical, Kinky Boots. Most recently, Sean received his Master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, UK.

J. Cameron Barnett has toured more than 20 countries in a revival of the musical Hair directed by co-creator, James Rado. He has since worked Off Broadway and toured Internationally and Nationally with several musicals and plays. Cameron can also be seen in such TV shows as The Twilight Zone (CBS All Access), Seven Seconds, The Blacklist, Gotham, Supernatural, to name a few, and most recently on POSE / FX where he had a recurring role as Castle.

The BFA theatre performance curriculum at New World School of the Arts, with its emphases in acting and musical theatre, is designed to enable students to meet the demands and rigors of professional theatre. Visiting artists constitutes an important part of both disciplines as they expose our students to current and new trends in theatre, film, and television in the various categories of the entertainment industry.

New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College, and the University of Florida.
