Miami, July 6, 2023 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will once again host a transformative three-week STEM Summer Bridge Program, designed for first-time college students. This unique program aims to set the stage for academic success by assisting students as they make the transition from high school to college at the North Campus. Applications will be accepted until July 12. Space is limited.
Research has shown that students who take part in bridge programs are more likely to achieve academic success and remain in their chosen fields. Concentrating on two gateway math and chemistry courses, this program helps students obtain essential skills, knowledge and confidence as they embark on their college journey.
The STEM Summer Bridge Program highlights include:
Intensive Coursework: To ensure that students have a firm grasp of fundamental ideas, the program will cover core themes in introductory chemistry and intermediate algebra.
Faculty Mentorship: Participants will have access to dedicated math and chemistry mentors who will provide guidance, support and personalized feedback throughout the program. They will work closely with students to identify their individual strengths, address weaknesses, and develop customized learning strategies.
Personalized Advisement: Advisors will work closely with students to develop personalized academic plans that align with their career goals and interests and will help them to identify and access a wide range of resources, including paid undergraduate research internships, scholarships, conferences and student professional development workforce trainings.
Collaborative Learning: The program encourages teamwork and collaboration through group projects and interactive sessions. Students will have the chance to work alongside their peers, fostering a sense of community, developing valuable teamwork, and promoting communication skills.
College Readiness Workshops: Recognizing the challenges faced by first-time college students, the program will offer workshops focused on essential skills for success in higher education. Topics will include financial literacy, time management, study strategies, effective communication and accessing campus resources.
MDC’s School of Science is committed to success in higher STEM education through student-focused innovative programs on various MDC campuses.
