Miami, Feb. 13, 2023 – Miami Dade College (MDC) President Madeline Pumariega has been inducted into Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) 2023 Alumni Hall of Fame. President Pumariega was also honored at M-DCPS’ For the Love of Learning Gala.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized by the school system that helped shape me into the person I am today,” said President Pumariega. “Thank you to the Miami-Dade County School Board and all the teachers and staff working tirelessly to support our students.”
President Pumariega, an MDC alumna, is the first female president appointed to lead MDC, one of the nation’s largest and most diverse educational institutions.
Prior to being named MDC’s president, she made history as the first female and Hispanic chancellor of the Florida College System (FCS). In that role, President Pumariega designed and implemented strategies to keep college accessible and affordable for Floridians, especially for those entering high-demand job fields. In 2019, she became executive vice president and provost of Tallahassee Community College.
In her current role, President Pumariega has prioritized working with business partners to identify the skills needed by key industries and tailoring higher education programs to match those needs. This intentional forming of strategic alliances and job pathways between companies and MDC students accelerates each graduate’s ability to enter the workforce immediately. Driving her relentless pursuit is the passion to develop leaders and build thriving communities. View President Pumariega’s complete bio here.
