Miami, August 30, 2021 – At a recent Convocation event to kick-off the new academic year, Miami Dade College (MDC) President Madeline Pumariega named Antonio Delgado the new Vice President of Innovation and Technology Partnerships. He previously served as Dean of the School of Engineering, Technology and Design (EnTec).
Delgado has more than 15 years of experience in technology program management and consulting across the United States, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean, including country manager at one of Latin America’s leading technology companies. As the Dean of EnTec, he focused on expanding MDC’s role as an equalizer and catalyst of opportunity, positioning the College as a trailblazer in technology education through academic development and key strategic partnerships. His overarching goal has been to harness the immense potential of students and the community at large through cutting-edge emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, cloud computing, Internet of Things, robotics and electric vehicles, expanding the workforce pipeline and ensuring MDC’s role at the frontier of innovation and solutions to society’s most pressing challenges. He established and fostered strong connections with key industry partners, such as Amazon, Tesla, IBM, Microsoft, SoftBank and Google; and launched the Cybersecurity Center of the Americas, the Cloud Computing Center and the Electric Vehicle Training Center at MDC. Delgado has helped secure more than $15 million in prestigious grants and other external resources, including grants from the National Security Agency (NSA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Mozilla and Google.org. During his tenure, MDC became the #1 college in Florida in number of students obtaining industry certifications. Prior to his role as Dean of EnTec, Delgado managed technology programs for The Idea Center. He also served as Generation IT Program Manager and Lead Instructor for the McKinsey Social Initiative at MDC.
Delgado holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering from Universidad Tecnológica de La Habana (CUJAE) in Havana, Cuba, and a master’s with highest distinction in computer networks from the University of Westminster in London, U.K. He currently serves on the STEM Advisory Board of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the Advisory Board of South Florida Tech Hub, the Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s Technology Committee and the AWS Educate Cloud Associate Degree Executive Committee.
In his new role at MDC, Delgado will focus on building new and expanded strategic alliances so that the College can continue fueling a talented tech workforce and ensuring the growth of Miami’s tech ecosystem, as well as regionally, nationally and internationally.
Veteran College administrator Manny Perez, who previously served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the Wolfson Campus, has been appointed Dean of EnTec.
Prior to becoming Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Perez was chair of engineering and technology at the North Campus, where he launched the Bachelor of Science in information systems technology; helped establish a feeder program with Miami-Dade County Public Schools; and collaborated with faculty to secure funding from the National Center for Women and Information Technology to promote engineering and technology programs among female high school students.
