MDC Lady Sharks Volleyball Team Headed to National Tournament

Miami, April 2, 2021 – Hot off their state win last weekend, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Lady Sharks volleyball team is headed to nationals! After defeating Polk State College today, the Lady Sharks qualified to compete at the NJCAA National Championship on April 15-17 in West Plains, Missouri. The team has 47 state championship wins and 11 national titles.

Under the leadership of Coach Kiko Benoit, the Lady Sharks finished their last season third in the nation in 2019. Their 2020 season was moved to 2021 due to the pandemic. They finished second in the nation in 2018 and were back-to-back NJCAA National Champions in 2017 and 2016.

MDC’s Department of Athletics prides itself in the sponsorship of academic development and the promotion of sports. MDC teams have earned a total of 35 NJCAA national titles, including 15 in women’s sports. Its student athletes have succeeded everywhere from the professional playing field to the board room. Many MDC sports alumni are members of the halls of fame in their respective collegiate and professional sports. Others are leaders in business and industry.
