Miami Dade College North Campus Student Selected to All-USA Community College Academic Team

Miami, April 24, 2017 – Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus student Rachel Diaz was recently inducted as a member of the 2017 All-USA Community College Academic Team during the Phi Theta Kappa’s (PTK) President’s Breakfast at the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Convention in New Orleans.

Diaz is one of only 20 students selected for the prestigious honor from more than 1,800 nominees. The team of 20 was selected by an independent panel of judges from colleges, community and national organizations, and foundations. Judges considered grades, leadership activities and, most importantly, how students extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom.

The All-USA program is widely recognized as the most prestigious academic honor for students attending community college. Nominees are hand-selected by colleges for showing intellectual rigor and demonstrating academic achievement, leadership and civic growth. The program also recognizes students who extend their community college education to better themselves, their schools and their surrounding communities.

As an All-USA Community College Academic Team member, Ortiz will receive a $5,000 scholarship and a commemorative medallion from the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK).

The All-USA Community College Academic Team is sponsored by Follett Higher Education Group with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.
