Miami Dade College Learning Resources Wins Prestigious National Award

MIAMI, Jan. 25, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Learning Resources received the renowned 2017 ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award by the Association of College and Research Libraries.

“Students, and the college community in general, are fortunate to have so many resources assisting students in their educational journey,” said MDC’s Director of Learning Resources, Erick Dominicis.

The Learning Resources area enhances student learning and success by providing library services, tutoring in a variety of disciplines and skills, and services to meet the needs of the diverse student body on each campus, in addition to facilities with state of the art technology and spaces that facilitate collaborative and individual study sessions.

MDC students have access to collections of library materials in physical and electronic format to support each discipline’s curriculum as well as for personal interest.  The libraries offer online access to over 150 online databases housing millions of articles, e-books, and streaming videos useful for all career paths.  Furthermore, students and faculty receive assistance and instruction from dedicated and expert librarians, tutors, and technologists in the use of resources.

The annual award is sponsored by ACRL and GOBI Library Solutions from EBSCO and it recognizes the staff of a college, university, and community college library for programs that deliver exemplary services and resources to further the education mission of the institution. MDC’s Learning Resources will be presented with $3,000 and a plaque at an upcoming award ceremony.
