Miami, Nov. 3, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Book Fair (MBF), the nation’s finest and largest literary gathering, brings to South Florida the world’s most renowned authors across many genres, disciplines, and cultural backgrounds, including award-winning and local poets who will share their latest works.
This year’s lineup includes former U.S. Poet Laureates Rita Dove and Robert Pinsky; 2016 Pulitzer Prize-winner Peter Balakian; Sjohnna McCray, winner of the 2016 Walt Whitman Award; Miami resident Marci Calabretta Cancio-Bello, winner of the 2015 AWP Donald Hall Poetry Prize; Boston Poet Laureate Danielle Legros-Georges; Donika Kelly, winner of the 2015 Cave Canem Poetry Prize; Rajiv Mohabir, winner of the 2015 Four Way Books Intro Poetry Prize; Safiya Sinclair, winner of the 2015 Prairie Schooner Book Award in Poetry; Janine Joseph, winner of the 2014 Kundiman Poetry Prize; Eileen Myles; Campbell McGrath; Denise Duhamel; Joy Harjo; Iranian-American poet Solmaz Sharif, recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship; and Noah Warren, winner of the 2015 Yale Younger Poets Prize, among others.

Miami Book Fair
Widely recognized as the largest and finest literary gathering in the U.S., the Miami Book Fair’s eight-day festival features readings and conversation with the world’s most renowned authors and more than 200 booksellers and exhibitors across various genres and interests. Book lovers are also treated to culinary presentations, live music, dance and theater performances, interactive art projects, fun and educational activities for children, and more! In addition to the annual festival, the Miami Book Fair builds community and promotes reading and writing throughout the year with activities open to all, including creative writing courses taught by local and visiting authors, literary gatherings and happy hours and Read to Learn Books for Free, a partnership with The Children’s Trust that distributes more than 160,000 free books a year to children in Miami-Dade County.

Miami Dade College
Miami Dade College has a long and rich history of involvement in the cultural arts, providing South Florida with a vast array of artistic and literary offerings through its cultural affairs department, including the Miami Book Fair, the Miami Film Festival, MDC Live Arts performing arts series, the Cuban Cinema Series, and groundbreaking art exhibitions at the Museum of Art + Design (MOA+D) located inside the college’s historic Freedom Tower and art galleries at each campus. With an enrollment of more than 165,000 students, MDC is the largest institution of higher education in the country and is a national model for many of its programs.
