MDC North Campus’ Children’s Holiday to Feature Dedication of USPS Nativity Stamp and Santa’s Arrival Dec. 10

Miami, Nov. 8, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus presents its beloved annual winter wonderland, Children’s Holiday at North, on Saturday, Dec.  10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

Kicking off festivities at 10 a.m. will be the United States Postal Services’ (USPS) official 2016 holiday stamp dedication ceremony. The Postal Service™ is celebrating Christmas with a new stamp featuring a traditional Nativity scene. The stamp art depicts a peaceful yet powerful image of the Holy Family silhouetted against a dawn sky. USPS Art director Greg Breeding designed the stamp with original art by illustrator Nancy Stahl.

Santa’s grand arrival from the North Pole will immediately follow, along with Mrs. Claus and a spectacular parade of Santa’s little helpers, several Disney characters, and riveting marching bands. Children will also be able to greet Santa and take a picture with him by his chimney.

Other highlights include a 12-foot mountain of snow where children will be treated to a new outdoor experience of South Florida style sledding.  There will also be several live performances on three stages, which include a Polynesian dance group, jazz bands, orchestras from various middle and high schools, and much more. In addition, there will be numerous educational and cultural interactive learning activities such as the Youth in Agriculture Pavilion featuring wild animals, Human Rights Spot, the Confucius Institute, the M-DCPS Magnet Schools Zone, a petting zoo, STEM Interactive Corner, Arts and Crafts pavilion, and a Holidays-Around-the-World Center showcasing global holiday customs.

Children’s Holiday at North’s very own Candy Land food court will offer a selection of numerous food trucks and vendors to satisfy cravings at a reasonable cost.

Families are encouraged to bring a toy to contribute toward a toy drive to support needy children in the local community.
