MAGIC @ MDC Honors Graduating Students with World Premiere of their Animated Shorts

Miami, March 22, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) will present the world premiere of three animated short films created by MAGIC Class of 2017 students in collaboration with Nickelodeon and Fox Animation. The films will be shown at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 19. Nickelodeon VP of Production and Development, Miriam Luciow will deliver opening remarks. The event is invitation-only. Working media is welcome.  

The animated short films are Dine & Dash by Laquisha Campos; Levitate by Sofia Raffo and New World Order by Jonathan Rodriguez. Supporters and partners include VIACOM International, Nickelodeon, Alienware, Discovery Latin America, Univision, West Kendall Baptist Health, Code Art Miami, Fox Animation, Patricia and Philip Frost Museum of Science, Intercontinental Hotel Miami, and Miami DDA.

MAGIC offers an Associate in Science degree in computer programming and analysis with concentrations in animation and game art, or game development and design. Students in the intensive, hands-on two-year program develop skills in modeling, lighting, motion, sound, and storytelling, as well as gain command of the technical skills required in today’s highly competitive animation industry. They are also mentored by industry professionals from world-renowned studios while completing short animated films.

MAGIC was recently recognized as one of the nation’s top four schools for animation and visual effects by Animation Magazine. In the March 2017 issue of Animation Magazine’s International Education & Career Guide, the publication praised MAGIC’s academic program, collaborations with animation studios and affordability.
